Imperial Farmer’s Market has shut down for a short time because of the coronavirus, making it one of the latest businesses impacted by the pandemic.

Community Impact reported the host of the farmers market, the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, said all April events will be postponed or canceled.

This transition is causing businesses like Karen Trekell’s homemade soap company – LatherMeUp – to be concerned about how to make money and consider taking their brand online, even if that’s not their comfort zone.

Trekell, who was been with the farmers market for more than five years, said, according to Community Impact, “I’m trying to find some ways to do some more advertising online to try to get some online business going. Online business isn’t really my focus.”

She added that one of the things she misses most is face-to-face interactions.

“I try to focus on the farmers market because I enjoy the interaction with people," she said. "They can smell the soap [and] ask questions.”
