The Texas Heritage Parkway is expected to begin construction in May.
After breaking ground, the parkway is expected to take 13 to 16 months to complete. The construction includes building a 6.4-mile, 200-foot-wide highway with two lanes in either direction, a median and 10 roundabouts.
“The project will be split into three sections with three construction companies overseeing each phase,” said Gary Gehbauer, an engineer with BGE Inc.,told the Community Impact Newspaper.
The $48.8 million project will be funded in half by landowners. Fort Bend County, the City of Fulshear and the City of Kay will supply the other half of the funding. The funding provided by landowners will also pay for a roadside trail system that costs almost $2 million.
The construction of the parkway had been delayed for almost a year because the project did not have the necessary clearance. However, the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court and Fulshear City Council approved two amended interlocal agreements for this project on March 31.
“We’ve been delayed a little bit, mainly because the last portion of it—we didn’t have the right of way,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers said.
