Fort Bend County Commissioners are trying to assist taxpayers while drafting a budget that will suffer a $3 million drop in revenue due to the COVID-19 economic shutdown.

According to the Fort Bend HeraldCounty Auditor Ed Sturdivant revealed county revenue is expected to drop from $14 million to $11 million for the year. In light of this, commissioners have approved a budget that would minimize the impact to taxpayers over the next year.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Grady Prestage and Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers are serving on the budget.

County Judge KP George told the newspaper, “You two are the budget OG’s…” referencing the phrase “original gangsters.”

The Texas Legislature has also been called on to help reduce tax payments for residents after taxable property values hit a peak just before the stay-at-home orders took effect.
