Waller County commissioners addressed COVID-19 and flood relief funding along with other residents' concerns at their June 10 meeting.

The county court has accepted $321,871 in coronavirus relief funds provided by the CARES Act and plans to use the money to administer testing sites and recoup the costs of personal protective equipment, reports the Katy Times.

The Texas Flood Infrastructure Fund Program is opening applications from engineering companies to be reviewed. The state program provides loans and grants for flood control and drainage projects.

The court also conferred on needed road and bridge equipment, which could cost between $615,000 and $1 million, to be included in the 2020 and 2021 budgets, according to the Times.

The Waller County Criminal Justice Center has been renamed and is now known as Waller County Justice Center. The court also heard a citizen’s proposal to rename Liendo Parkway because the parkway is named after a Waller County plantation owner, Jose Justo Liendo. The citizen proposed that Liendo Parkway be renamed to Sandra Bland Parkway or that the parkway revert to its previous name of University Drive.
