Bob Harvey, president and CEO of Greater Houston Partnership, applauds Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to expand business reopenings.
In an executive order issued on Sept. 17, the majority of the Lone Star State businesses were allowed to expand occupancy levels for office buildings, restaurants, museums, libraries, retail stores, classes, gym and exercise facilities, and manufacturing facilities. New regulations for long-term care facilities and nursing home visitations were also announced.
Harvey said he is encouraged by the order but recommends it be done “safely and sustainably” and that people must be “vigilant and continue practicing the same safety measures that helped us slow the spread of COVID-19 in recent weeks. If we all do our part, we can enjoy a better quality of life this fall,” he said in a release.
“Houstonians have shown we can manage COVID-19 in our community by wearing masks, washing our hands and keeping our distance from others,” said Harvey. “As the economy continues to reopen, it is crucial that we continue these practices to ensure the safety and well-being of our families, our employees, and our community.”
