Republican Texas Rep. Troy Nehls is set to introduce a House version of Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst's legislation to allow states to request necessary materials from the federal government to complete the construction of the border wall. The bill, known as the BUILD IT Act, would require the federal government to transfer construction materials to states upon request. Ernst originally introduced the legislation in the Senate.

States like Arizona and Texas have taken action to continue construction on their sections of the border wall that were left incomplete. Speaking about the bill, Ernst criticized President Biden's approach to border security, stating, "President Biden's open border has been an open invitation for over eight million illegal immigrants and a gateway for terrorists to infiltrate our country."

Nehls echoed Ernst's concerns, emphasizing the need to put the already-purchased border materials to use and end the wasteful spending. He expressed his frustration with the Biden administration's decision to halt construction of the border wall and auction off materials paid for by taxpayers. Nehls stated, "I'm proud to introduce legislation... to stop the flow of bad hombres into our country and finish the construction of the border wall because the Biden Administration does not care about securing our borders and putting America first."

The Biden administration ended Title 42, a public health measure implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, on May 11. This measure allowed for the rapid expulsion of migrants on public health grounds. In 2021, border agents encountered a record two million migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. They also seized billions of dollars in counterfeit goods and significant amounts of drugs.

It's important to note that President Biden signed an executive order to halt construction of the border wall in January 2021. The introduction of this legislation by Rep. Nehls and Sen. Ernst is a direct response to the Biden administration's approach to border security.
