In a recent development, Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) has introduced a House Resolution condemning Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's comments on “60 Minutes” on March 24, 2024. The resolution not only condemns President López Obrador's remarks as diplomatic blackmail but also calls on the Mexican government to take action to limit illegal immigration.
Speaking on the matter, Congressman Nehls expressed his strong disapproval, stating, “The comments made by Mexico’s President are reprehensible and equate to diplomatic blackmail.” He further emphasized the need for Mexico to secure its own border and implement policies such as the 'Remain in Mexico' policy, originally initiated by former President Trump, and establish a Safe Third Country Agreement with the United States. Nehls also criticized the current administration, stating, “When did the United States of America start to meet the ‘demands’ of a foreign country? I’ll tell you when—when Joe Biden became president. This is completely unacceptable.”
The resolution introduced by Congressman Nehls received support from fellow lawmakers, including Congressman Jake Ellzey (R-TX-06) and Tom Tiffany (R-WI-07), who cosponsored the initiative.
This resolution highlights the ongoing discussions and concerns surrounding immigration policies between the United States and Mexico.
