With a deadline for needed rail safety communications upgrades looming and the National Transportation Safety Board recently issuing a report explaining that mechanical failures of such equipment both caused and exacerbated the severity of the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment last year – the U.S. House of Representatives’ Transportation Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, chaired by Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), is set to convene on Tuesday and focus on preventing a similar event from happening again.
