WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 24, Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) spoke on the House Floor in support of S.J.Res.11, which would nullify the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Heavy-Duty Engine and Vehicle Standards rule andissued the following statement after voting for its final passage:
“Today, I proudly voted for S.J.Res.11, which nullifies the Biden Administration’s Heavy-Duty Vehicle Emissions rule,” said Congressman Nehls. “I am also pleased to have led this effort in the House with my companion bill. The EPA’s final rule is yet another example of burdensome federal regulation and would unfairly target the trucking industry and pass costs for the American consumer and small businesses, all in the name of the Biden Administration’s woke climate change agenda. The ineffective rule would also force truckers to keep older and higher-emitting trucks on the road longer because of the expensive technological components needed to adhere to the stringent regulations. This out-of-touch rule will not do anything to address the real concerns of the trucking industry. I want to thank Senator Fischer for leading this effort in the Senate and the trucking industry for raising national awareness of this important issue. In Congress, I will continue to prevent overregulation, support America’s small businesses, and keep costs low for consumers.”
The EPA’s heavy-duty engine and vehicle standards rule targets our trucking industry by imposing 80% more stringent emissions regulations than current standards. The rule went into effect in March 2023. These new regulations require vehicle models made in 2027 and beyond to reduce their emissions, and it would cost up to $8,300 per vehicle to comply with this rule.
