Guidry to face incumbent Smith in GOP run-off for Waller County sheriff

Vote21

HEMPSTEAD – Challenger Troy Guidry had the most votes as the Republican candidate for Waller County sheriff, but with only a plurality, he will now face a run-off against incumbent Sheriff R. Glenn Smith.

Guidry came in first with approximately 45% of the vote. Smith had approximately 42% of the votes and Dan Porter had approximately 12%. In Texas, if one of the candidates does not take over 50% of the vote, a runoff election will decide the winner between the two candidates with the most votes.

The primary runoff election is scheduled for May 26.

A 14-year resident of Waller County, Guidry has campaigned on more structure within the sheriff’s office. He also would like to increase patrol deputies to deal with theft problems in the county.

Guidry is challenging Smith, who has been sheriff since 2009. His priorities include maintaining safe roadways as the local population continues to increase.
