The race for the Texas Governor's Office is heating up as Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke recently announced that he has raised more than $7 million in the first six weeks of his campaign.

According to Chron, O'Rourke announced that in the first six weeks of his campaign, he has raised $7.2 million. In his failed 2018 Senate campaign, O'Rourke raised $80 million, which was a record at the time and O'Rourke also ran for president in 2020.

Incumbent Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reported that he raised $18.9 million in the final six months of 2021, for a total of $65 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Abbott has scheduled a fundraising event for Jan. 24 in Orange County, California, according to Texas Scorecard. Attendees can purchase one ticket for $5,000, two tickets for $10,000, or 4 tickets and a signed copy of the governor's book for $25,000.

Elected in 2014, Abbott is currently serving as the 48th governor of Texas. Before being elected governor, Abbott was the longest-serving attorney general of Texas.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Don Huffines reported he has raised $12 million for his campaign.

"Greg Abbott and Robert Francis (O'Rourke) have a lot in common. They both get millions of dollars from California, and they are unfit to lead Texas. Democrats are throwing money at Beto because they know how vulnerable Abbott is. He has failed to secure the Texas border, secure our elections, and property taxes have only gone up. We need a strong Republican leader to govern Texas, that is why I am running."

Huffines is the CEO of Huffines Communities, a Dallas/Fort Worth-based real estate development firm. From 2015 to 2019 Huffines served in the Texas Senate, representing the people of Texas' 16th Senate District.

Huffines joins former Florida Congressman and Texas GOP Chairman Allen West and media personality Chad Prather in challenging Abbott in the March 1 GOP gubernatorial primary, according to Ballotpedia.

Former El Paso City Council member and U.S. Congressman Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke leads the Democratic field for the nomination. O'Rourke previously mounted two unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Senate and president of the United States.
